Of course, the 1060 also runs considerably cooler as it draws less wattage which is always nice. Otherwise I would have certainly gone for the AMD based card. I needed the 1060 because it was supported by the ancient legacy bios in my LAN rig, where the RX580 needed a UEFI bios. Now, is the card worth it compared to a full fat 8gb RX580 which can be had for essentially the same price? Probably not. At the time of writing this review, that difference was roughly $40 on average in the used market. And certainly worth the lower price of the 3gb cards vs the 6gb cards as far as I'm concerned. And as most of you know, a drop from ultra to very-high is barely perceptible to most of us. And usually reducing the settings (at 1080p) from ultra to very-high has made the difference in vram usage. I've only had a handful of instances where the 3gb has limited me (ghost recon wildlands). It's true that it has a fewer cores and generally runs about 5(ish) percent off the 6gb 1060's, but it's barely noticeable IMHO. Many folks believe the 3gb version of the 1060 isn't worth getting, but I don't agree. ![]() 3gb vram still viable in 2019? I think so!
